CIVIL ENGINEER

The Ministry of Business invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Civil Engineer, Department of Industry.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER SKILLS

A Degree in Civil Engineering, plus two (2) years’ relevant experience in a similar position. Good communication and managerial skills are a prerequisite.

SALARY AND OTHER BENEFITS: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Terms of Reference for Director of GNBS

The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) was established by Act No 11 of 1994.  The Act provides for the preparation and promotion of Standards in relation to commodities, services, processes and practices through the establishment and operation of a Bureau of Standards. It establishes the Guyana National Bureau of Standards and the National Standards Council, and vests the management of the Bureau in the Council. It also defines the objects of the Bureau and the powers and functions of the Council and provides for mattes incidental there to.

In September 2015 the Ministry of Business was created to address matters including investment promotion, workforce enhancement, sustainable development and export promotion. The Ministry includes the Departments of Commerce and Industrial Development, the Small Business Bureau (SBB), the Guyana Office for Investment (GOInvest) and the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS). The Ministry of Business is guided by a Strategic Action Plan with five strategic goals as follows:

1. Improve the ease of doing business in Guyana

2. Attract increased foreign investments in our economy

3. Support the development and exports of value-added industries

4. Increase the economic opportunities and capabilities of vulnerable groups

5. Expand our capacity to develop and promote sustainable business-friendly policies

The Business Strategy and Policy Unit is a new unit of the Ministry with a mandate to develop strategies and policies in the relevant areas. This involves research, strategic planning, policy analysis, economics and law.
