The Government has invested a whopping $38M in the upcoming Small Business Exposition, where 300 local business proprietors are set to showcase their products and services. It will be held over three days at the National Exhibition Center in Sophia from November 27. The Exposition, which is expected to be an annual event was developed to create awareness and open new market for local businesses.

During a press briefing on Friday, November 20, 2015, Minister of Business  Dominic Gaskin, said that presently the venue is being prepared, tents are being erected, booths have been installed and work is being done in the compound to ensure that everything is in order for the event.

The Minister said that meetings were also held with the relevant authorities, including the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Power and Light Company and the Ministry of Public Health to ensure security and other measures are in place to deal with certain issues.

Asked whether there is any hope for the annual GUYEXPO, the Minister responded in the positive. “We have no intention of doing away from GUYEXPO,” Gaskin said. He added, “The main difference is Business Expo has more of a business focus and less of an entertainment focus and the target is most small businesses rather than big businesses.”

Some of the exhibitors include small furniture companies, Tourism, handicraft among others.

The exhibition will be held under the team “Guyanese products and services- our gateway to the good life.”
